Motocross centre in Tankersley on Greenbelt PDF Print E-mail

Moto Cross in TankersleyA moto-cross centre has sprung up recently, near the A616/A61 Roundabout, this consists of a dirt track cut into the field with jumps and curves bankings etc As far as the author can determine through conversations with BMBC planning authority, this does not currently have planning consent, we understand that planning permission is being sought.

They plan to run the site from 10-16:30 Wednedsday to Sunday.  According to some websites,  they are also planning a cafe and campling facilities with toilets etc.

There are some in the community who would benefit from a facility like this, as there are no approved tracks in the area, the nearest one is quite a distance away at Finningley.

The noise can be considerable, It is a different picthed noise from the Motorway traffic, BMBC have received noise complaints from High Green, Pilley, and Howbrook.

Some residents think that it would reduce the illegal use of motorbikes in the Lidget area as there would be a facility for them to use this track, however having watched the bikes whizzing around the track, it seems to attract the youths with the proper equipment, This will not address the idiots on illegal bikes without helmets etc.

Would it also encourage off-road bikes to ride their bikes on-road from Hoyland, Birdwell, High Green?  Put simply, this cannot be construed as a community resource that will remove nuisance bikes from the area, but it could provide a useful recreational facility.
